CHICOPEE, Mass. – Two ninth-graders combined for the win in the circle, and Khloe Vanuni and Aiden Champney paced the offense as the McCann Tech softball team Monday beat Chicopee, 25-5, in the Hornets’ season opener.
“Finally got to play a game,” McCann Tech coach Robin Finnegan said. “A lot of work ahead, but, overall, I was pleased with what I saw.”
Emma Lemire earned the win in the circle, allowing five hits and striking out three in four innings of work.
Her ninth-grade classmate Alexis Lemanski gave up a hit, a strikeout and a walk in one inning of relief.
Vanuni doubled in a 3-for-3 day and drove in three runs.
Champney went 4-for-4 and finished with four RBIs.
Shaley Lawson also had four RBIs in a 1-for-2 day at the plate.
McCann Tech (1-0) plays its “home” opener on Tuesday against city rival Drury in a game that has been moved to the Alcombright Field complex.
