SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Julia Devoti doubled to center field with one out in the bottom of the eighth to give the Mount Everett softball team a 6-5 win over Drury on Wednesday.

 

The Eagles started the inning when Stella Lennex was placed on second base by rule.

 

After Drury pitcher Olivia Perry got the first batter to fly out to Rachael Barrows at third, Devoti drove the first pitch she saw into the outfield to end the game.

 

She went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the win.

 

She also earned the win in the circle, striking out 10, walking two and allowing three earned runs.

 

“What a fun game today to be a part of,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “Two teams battling it out, great action back and forth on both sides, pretty overall clean game, and we were able to finish the game in the bottom of the eighth. Julia and Olivia battled all game and really kept girls on their toes.”

 

Allison Steuernagle went 2-for-4 with a triple, and Emily Steuernagle tripled in a nine-hit Mount Everett attack.

 

The Eagles led, 5-2, before Drury rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh.

 

Brooke Bishop hit an RBI single with two out to score Maddie Saunders. After Perry reached on an error, Norah Wood doubled to right to drive in Bishop and Perry and make it 5-5.

 

Bishop finished 2-for-3 with a home run and a pair of RBIs.

 

Perry allowed three earned runs in 7-? innings, striking out eight and walking seven.

 

Drury (12-2) looks to snap a two-game skid on Friday when it hosts Hoosac Valley.

 

Mount Everett (7-4) hosts Ludlow on Thursday.

 

“We've really been talking about fundamentals in the field and at the plate and the girls played really well today,” King said. “Once again, Emma Goewey is leading by example with the team, and she is another coach on and off the field with the girls - shows their maturity as teammates to buy in as well and proud of them for the growth and improvement they show.”
