NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Aiden Champney raced home on an error in the bottom of the ninth to complete a 7-6, come-from-behind win for the McCann Tech softball team on Wednesday.

 

Champney started the winning rally with a one-out single. She scored when the Eagles committed an error attempting to erase Miranda Ranzoni on a sacrifice bunt try.

 

The Hornets were down, 5-0, going to the bottom of the fifth, but scored two runs each of the next three innings to force extras.

 

“What a game. nine innings,” McCann Tech coach Robin Finnegan said. “So proud of these kids. We came out flat after a big win at Hoosac but these kids never gave up.”

 

Hannah Tatro struck out 10 and allowed three earned runs in a nine-inning win in the circle.

 

McCann Tech was down, 6-4, going to the bottom of the seventh.

 

Svea Lawson drew a 13-pitch walk to lead off the inning.

 

Nora Kondel then singled, but Lawson was erased trying to reach third on a throw from Mount Everett left fielder Olivia Goewey.

 

A single by Tatro left runners at the corners with one out, and Courtney Kanelos reached on an error that allowed Kondel to score and moved Tatro to second.

 

Paige Meyette then bunted back to the circle to get Tatro to third with two out.

 

Champney hit an RBI single to score Tatro and tie the game, 6-6.

 

Tatro led McCann Tech with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Shaylee Lawson and Svea Lawson each doubled.

 

For the Eagles, Emma Goewey went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Allison Steuernagle, Aliyah Creamer and Julia Devoti each doubled.

 

Devoti went the distance in the circle, striking out 12, walking eight and allowing four earned runs.

 

Mount Everett (4-2) goes to Springfield Central on Thursday.

 

McCann Tech (4-4) hosts Ludlow on Thursday.
