CLINTON, Mass. – Khalil Carlson scored 18 points Tuesday to lead the Monument Mountain boys basketball team to a 67-50 win over Clinton in the Division 4 State Tournament Sweet 16.
No. 11 Monument Mountain (19-3) took control of the game with a 14-0 first-quarter run to open a 14-6 lead and never looked back.
“We did a great job defending the 3-point line, holding Clinton to just three 3-pointers,” Monument Mountain coach Randy Koldys said. “We also did a good job holding them to 50 points with some great team defense. We were really solid contesting shots and holding them to one and done when they missed.”
Manny Brown hit five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points.
Kyle Wellenkamp and Sebastian Guete-Ramirez each finished with nine points.
The Spartans move on to face No. 3 Springfield International Charter School (21-2) in the state quarter-finals on a date to be announced.
