American Legion Post 125 head coach Bob Rumbolt, left, presents a plaque in Richard "Dick" Ameen's honor to members of the Ameen family. Ameen's daughter Sue Fisher (second from left), wife Mary Beth Ameen (third from left), and son Mike Ameen (also) were presented with a Legion hat, T-shirt and a baseball signed by every player on the 2010 Post 125 baseball team.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The late Richard "Dick" Ameen was honored before the start of Tuesday's Legion baseball game between Post 125 (North Adams) and Post 274 (Lenox Dale) at Joe Wolfe Field.

Ameen, who passed away last October at the age of 73, was commander of Post 125 for four terms and also served as an executive board member for 42 years. He was the District 1 baseball commissioner for three years and a Legion State Baseball board member for 10 years.

Members of the Ameen family were in attendance to receive gifts presented by Post 125 head coach Bob Rumbolt.

"He loved baseball," said Mary Beth Ameen, Dick's wife. "He enjoyed everything he did with the Legion. He'd be very honored today."

Also in attendance were two of Ameen's good friends, Post 125 Commander and District 1 Baseball Commissioner Dennis St. Pierre and Post 125 Finance Officer Bill Schrade.

"Without [Dick], we wouldn't have a Post 125 baseball team," St. Pierre said.

As part of the presentation, Ed MacDonald, a candidate for 1st Berkshire District state representative, donated $1,000 to the American Legion Post 125 baseball team.

Follow The SteepleCats Live Online

Patrick Ronan

The SteepleCats are on the road tonight and tomorrow, but don't fret. You can still follow all the action on the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Web site.

The NECBL added a new feature this season which allows fans to track every contest pitch-by-pitch. It's very similar to ESPN's "Game Tracker," which gives fans an opportunity to follow each game without leaving their homes.

So if you can't make it out the ball game, visit the NECBL site, click on "Scoreboard," then click on "Game Live" for the game you want to track.
