Joseph Bushika Jr., 85
STAMFORD, Vt. — Joseph Bushika Jr., 85, of 75 Arcadia Drive died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at his home.Born in North Adams, Mass., on Dec. 16, 1927, son of Joseph and Gladys Rennell Bushika, he attended local schools.
An Army veteran, he served in the Signal Corps from 1946 to 1947.
Mr. Bushika was employed for 21 years as a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 63, retiring in 1990. He had previously worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for 21 years, until 1968.
He enjoyed golf, hunting and cribbage and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He also wrote a column for the local papers for a number of years.
He and his wife, the former Gwendolyn A. Jones, were married on Oct. 11, 1947.
Besides his wife of 66 years, he leaves his son, Joseph Bushika III of Clarksburg, Mass.; two daughters, Donna Marie Bushika of Palmer, Alaska, and Barbara Ann Malinowski of Stamford; two sisters, Helen Wardwell of Menands, N.Y., and Elizabeth Smiley of Ringgold, Ga.; three brothers, Walter Bushika of Port Orange, Fla., and Thomas Bushika and James Bushika, both of Stamford; eight grandchildren, Nikko, Ken, Kristi, Angie, Erika, Erin, Barbara, and Jason; 12 great-grandchildren, Krystlyn, Alexis, Jack, Emma, Brianne, Matthew, Joey, Kaley, Hannah, Abigail, Carly and Kendall, a great-greatgrandchild, Atreyu, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter Billie Joelle on Aug. 1, 1988, and his four brothers Arthur, Frank, George and Charles Bushika.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Bushika will be held Friday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, Mass. Burial will follow in Millard Cemetery in Stamford.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
