Douglas K. Wylde, 79
STAMFORD, Vt. — Douglas K. Wylde, 79, of 1135 Main Road died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at the BMC Satellite Emergency Facility in North Adams, Mass.A civic and business leader, he was the first president of the Northern Berkshire (Mass.) Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Stamford School Board of Directors, and past deputy chief of the Stamford Volunteer Fire Company, which honored him for his 35 years of service.
He was a former grand marshal of the Fall Foliage Festival Parage.
Born in North Adams on Feb. 17, 1935, a son of Edward and Grace Kay Wylde, he graduated from the former Williamstown (Mass.) High School and Williston Academy, and attended Worcester (Mass.) Polytechnic Institute.
He was an Air Force veteran.
Mr. Wylde was part owner in the family business BerkMatics until his retirement this past June. In his younger years, he was employed with Continental Air Lines in Colorado.
He was also an adviser to McCann Technical School in North Adams, a retired Vermont forest warden and past president of the Industrial Management Club.
He was a member of the Greylock Divers Association, of the East Mountain Sportsman's Club and the National Ski Patrol at the former Dutch Hill, and past president of the Stamford Fish and Game Association. He enjoyed playing in the Sunday morning Men's Golf League at Stamford Valley Golf Course. He was a member of the Stamford Community Church.
Besides his wife, the former Marjorie Rennie, whom he married on July 2, 1971, he leaves two daughters, Donna Kay Benoit of Clarksburg, Mass., and Michelle Wylde of Stamford; a son, Audie Wylde of Clarksburg; two stepdaughters, Karen Jongenelen of Clayton, Ga., and Donna Hart of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Russell Wylde of Bennington, Vt.; a sister, Cornelia Perlman of Henderson, Nev.; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a stepson and a brother, Wilfred Ducharme and Arthur Wylde.
