Shirley H. Briggs, 84
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Shirley Hope Briggs, 84, of 26 Foucher Ave. died on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown.Born in Clarksburg on March 4, 1931, a daughter of Arthur and Agnes Daniels McBride, she grew up on the Davine Farm in Clarksburg and attended Clarksburg School. At the age of 66, she graduated from then North Adams State College with a degree in computer science.
Mrs. Briggs was employed at the former Cornish Wire and General Cable in Williamstown for more than 30 years.
She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of North Adams and a member of the Eagles Ladies' Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting and reading and was a devoted mother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Nelson F. Briggs, died in 1982.
She leaves a son, Bruce Briggs and his companion, Wendy Simard, of North Adams; two daughters, Cheryl Briggs and her companion, Stanley Les, and Dale Briggs, all of North Adams; seven grandchildren, Tiffany and Shane DiGennaro, Cheryl Kohlenberger, Misty Charles, Bruce, Terry and Lila Briggs; 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Briggs will take place on Monday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of North Adams. Burial will take place at a later date in Clarksburg Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held on Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 Main St., North Adams. Donations are suggested for the First Baptist Church of North Adams through the funeral home.
