Charles A. Papa Jr., 84
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Charles Anthony Papa Jr., 84, of Burke Avenue died Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer.Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 14, 1931, the youngest of four children of Charles A. and Grace Blancato Papa, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1951.
He honorably served during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 as a medic.
Mr. Papa was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 42 years.
An avid poker player and college football fan, he also enjoyed gardening and building puzzles. He was also a dedicated family man who loved visiting his children and grandchildren on a frequent basis.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, the former Emily Briggs; two daughters, Christine Theroux and her husband, Mark, of Raynham and Corinne Fioravanti and her husband, Paul, of Cranston, R.I.; his son, Charles "Chuck" Papa II of Glenmore, Pa.; a brother, James Papa, and six grandchildren, Nicholas and Anthony Fioravanti, Alexandra Theroux, and Kaden, Charlie and Addison Papa.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Papa and Frank Papa.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Papa will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at St. Charles' Church, with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory officiating. Inurnment will take place in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Visitation at St. Charles' Church will be from Friday morning from 9:30 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Berkshires or the American Cancer Society in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
The family would like to thank their extended family and friends who supported him and his wife during this time. In addition, the family wanted to thank the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Care for their quality care and compassion.
