Florence A. Senecal, 82

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Florence Ann "Sandy" Senecal, 82, formerly of 37 Veazie St., died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, after a long illness.

Born in North Adams on Dec. 5, 1922, daughter of Celestino and Josephine Ravizza Sartori, she graduated from Drury High School in 1941 and attended the former St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield.

A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, she served in the first women's company assigned to Quantico Marine Base in Virginia. She was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant.

Mrs. Senecal was employed by North Adams Regional Hospital until her retirement in the early 1980s. She also had worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in the 1950s, and was the head cook at the former St. Joseph's High School in the 1960s.

She and her husband, Albert J. "Cooney" Senecal, were both employed by the former Florini's Italian Garden Restaurant. They also owned the former Clarksburg Sporting Club.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and was active in local senior programs. She loved to travel and embraced life.

Her husband, whom she married May 22, 1947, died in 1979.

She leaves a daughter, Kathy Gray and her husband, Terry, of Gansevoort, N.Y.; a brother, Aldo Sartori
of Clarksburg; a sister, Anita Benedetti of Williamstown, and four grandchildren, Dennis and Shannon DelBarone and Bonnie and Robert Gray, many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her twin daughters, Charlotte Senecal Johnson in 1986 and Louise Senecal in 1965; two grandsons, Andrew Harmon Johnson in 1999 and Nathan Reed Johnson in 2002, and her siblings Elvina LeSage, Viola Nugai, Albina Sartori, Frank Sartori and Edmund Sartori. While they passed on before her, her family said they lived on in her heart and her always entertaining stories.
