Frank W. Bushika, 74

STAMFORD, Vt. - Frank William Bushika, 74, of 85 Bushika Road died Wednesday morning, Jan. 4, 2006, at North Adams (Mass.) Regional Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken earlier in the day.

Born in Stamford on March 11, 1931, son of Joseph F. Bushika Sr. and Gladys Rennell Bushika, he attended schools there.

An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served from Nov. 9, 1950, until his honorable discharge with the rank of corporal on Sept. 25, 1953.

Mr. Bushika was employed by Eilers Brothers Trucking in Readsboro for about nine years, retiring in 1993. Before that, he was the road commissioner for the town of Stamford for many years. In his younger years, he was employed by the state of Vermont Highway Department.

He was a member of Peter Cook Post VFW in Clarksburg, Mass., and Walter Case Post American Legion in Readsboro. He enjoyed telling stories and taking long drives in the country. He also enjoyed fishing and crossword puzzles. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

His wife, the former Eva Mae Benson, whom he married on June 5, 1954, died Sept. 11, 1990.

He leaves four daughters, Cynthia J. Bushika, who lived with him in Stamford, Helen G. Staib of Wilmington, Joni L. Dunn of Stamford, and Maureen A. Bushika of North Adams; five brothers, Thomas Bushika, Joseph Bushika Jr., and James Bushika, all of Stamford,Charles Bushika of Bennington, and Walter Bushika of Port Orange, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Wardwell of Menands, N.Y. and Elizabeth Smiley of Loveland, Ohio; five grandchildren, John, James and Jessica Dunn of Stamford and Jillian and Sarah Staib of Wilmington; a special nephew, Joseph Bushika III of Clarksburg, Mass., and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Two brothers, Arthur and George Bushika, predeceased him.

FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Bushika will be Saturday at 10:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 at St. Anthony's Church. Burial will be in the spring in Millard Cemetery in Stamford. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4 to 8.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clarksburg VFW or to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
