Anita M. Benedetti, 92

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Anita Mary Benedetti, 92, of 41 Hathaway St. died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown.

Born in North Adams on Sept. 24, 1916, daughter of Celestino and Giuseppina Ravizza Sartori, she attended North Adams schools and the former Bliss Business School.

Mrs. Benedetti was supervisor of food service for the North Adams Public Schools, retiring in 1978. She joined the food service department in 1958 and was named supervisor in 1963. Before her marriage, she was a housekeeper for the Spitzer family and worked at the former Sherman's Market and the Mohawk Chief Supermarket.

She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church and a member and treasurer of its Rosary Society. She was a member of the Massachusetts Food Service Association and the auxiliary of the Trentino Club. She and her husband, the late William Benedetti, were longtime members of the Hairpin Turners square dance club. They also loved to travel.

Her husband, William Benedetti, a North Adams police officer, whom she married on Sept. 3, 1938, died Jan. 26, 2000.

She leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Edward Noel of North Adams and Nanci and Albert Cirone of Lebanon, N.H.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald W. and Anne Benedetti of Natick and Robert A. and Sallie Benedetti of McLean, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Aldo and Doris Sartori of Clarksburg; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, her longtime friend Barbara Rizzo and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a grandson, William Benedetti, and her siblings Viola Nugai, Florence Senecal, Elvina LeSage, Edmund Sartori and Francis Sartori.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Benedetti will be Saturday, Jan. 17, at 10:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, formerly St. Anthony's Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

Following the burial, the family invites friends to a reception at St. Elizabeth's Parish Center. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Elder Services of Berkshire County in care of the funeral home.
