Selectmen Impressed By College Students' Efforts Within Community
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Two Williams College students were praised by Selectmen on Monday night for organizing a community tree-planting event, which will take place Saturday in the Eastlawn Cemetery.Josephine Warshauer and Stefan Ward-Wheten extended invitations to the Selectmen, while also providing details of the event, which will include the planting of five trees to complete the circle around the cemetery's Veterans Memorial.
"You guys have stepped out of the ivory tower, and you involved our town government and you did a great job fundraising," Chairman Tom Costley said to Warshauer and Ward-Wheten.
"On behalf of Williamstown, we thank you for your efforts," Jane Allen added.
Digging on Saturday will begin at 10 a.m with the goal of finishing around 1 p.m. Planting tools and lunch will be provided.
"We urge all local youth to come out and plant with us," Warshauer said.

"Peter prides himself on being able to effectively communicate a situation or an idea," said Allen. "He's never satisfied with merely explaining."
In other business:
► The board unanimously voted to not exercise its option to purchase or assign approximately 250 square feet of property off Gale Road. The parcel is owned by Williams College and will be transferred to Peter Willmott.
► The board granted a one-day all-alcoholic beverage license request by Images Cinema, which will hold a fundraiser at 91 Northwest Hill Road on Saturday, June 26.
► The board unanimously approved the payment of the Water and Sewer Warrant in the amount of $119,725.85.
► Mackenzie Greer provided an update of the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission Hazard Mitigation Plan. She spoke to the Adams Selectmen last week.
► Costley reminded residents that the town elections take place on Tuesday at the Williamstown Elementary School gymnasium. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
► At the end of Monday night's open session, the board voted to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing strategy with respect to non-union personnel. The board did not reconvene in open session.
