Great Barrington to Hold Waste Paint, Oil Collection
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The South Berkshire Household Hazardous Waste Collaborative will hold a paint and oil collection on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Great Barrington Recycling Center.This collection is for the 16 participating towns of the Collaborative. The Center for Ecological Technology (CET) will coordinate the collection. Acceptable materials are oil-based paint, stains, paint thinners, spray paint and turpentine, as well as waste motor oil.
Advance registration with CET is required.
The towns in the South Berkshire Household Hazardous Waste Collaborative sponsor this program. The participating towns are Alford, Becket, Egremont, Great Barrington, Lee, Lenox, Monterey, Mount Washington, New Marlborough, Otis, Richmond, Sandisfield, Sheffield, Stockbridge, Tyringham and West Stockbridge.
Latex paint will not be accepted. Empty cans can be recycled with scrap metal. Dried-up cans of latex paint can be disposed with the regular trash. Empty cans of oil-based paint, stains and solvents can be disposed with the regular trash as well. Usable paint can be given away through freecycle.org or some non-profits.
