The Selectmen are unhappy with the fact that the town processes ABCC paperwork but the fees all to the state.

ADAMS, Mass. — The Adams Farmers Market will continue this year starting sunday, July 12, at the Visitors Center.

Administrative Assistant Deborah Dunlap, who is organizing the market this year, told the Selectmen on Wednesday that it will take place every Sunday from July 12 through Oct. 4 from 9 to 1.

"We are going to have fun with it, and I am looking forward to it," Dunlap said. "I am really excited about the venders that are coming, and I'm sure the more we get the more will wont to come here."

Dunlap said people can expect to see produce, honey, dog toys, quilts, photography, natural beauty products, and even cherry marmalade.

She said all vendors are from Berkshire County.

"They are products from the area from people form the area," she said. "We have people form Dalton, Clarksburg, and from the hilltowns."

She said she expects a few more vendors to sign on before the big day.

There will be light music during the market and live events sponsored by the Events Committee beginning at 4.

The Selectmen also expressed their distaste for the mandate Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission relicensing that local clubs must go through.

Selectman Arthur "Skip" Harrington said the club must pay $200 after filling out the license form, which goes to the state after the town does all of the work.

"I just don't like the way that this is handled, and it puts the town of Adams as the bad guy," Harrington said. "We had to send it out, we have to basically go through all the work of making sure and checking the paperwork and they get the $200."

Harrington urged anyone upset by the unfunded mandate to complain to the ABCC or write to state legislators.

Selectman Jeffrey Snoonian agreed with Harrington and called the relicensing "asinine." He said many of the club owners had to go to lawyers to help fill out the forms.

"This is an unfunded mandate, and the only thing it has to do with is money," Snoonian said. "It's heavy handed tactics by the state just to get a $200 check from the American Legions and VFWs."

There will be a informational meeting for new and veteran town meeting members to discuss how town meeting works and the warrant on Thursday, June 18, at 7 at the Visitors Center.

Adams Community Bank Holds Annual Meeting, Announce Growth

ADAMS, Mass. — The annual meeting of the Community Bancorp of the Berkshires, MHC, the parent company of Adams Community Bank, was held on April 10, 2024, at Charles H. McCann Technical School in North Adams.

The meeting included reviewing the 2023 financial statements for the Bank, electing directors and corporators, and highlighting upcoming executive personnel changes.

"In 2023, the Bank experienced another year of growth in assets, loans, and deposits, noting the Pittsfield branch reached $26 million in customer deposits from its opening in December of 2022," President and CEO of Adams Community Bank Charles O'Brien said. "Those deposits were loaned out locally during 2023 and helped drive our #1 ranking in both mortgage and commercial real estate lending, according to Banker and Tradesman."

At year-end 2023, total assets were $995 million, and O'Brien noted the Bank crossed the $1 billion threshold during the first quarter of 2024.

Board chair Jeffrey Grandchamp noted with O'Brien's upcoming retirement, this will be the final annual meeting of the CEO's tenure since he joined the Bank in 1997. He thanked him for his 27 years of dedication to the Bank. He acknowledged the evolution of the Bank as it became the premier community bank in the Berkshires, noting that branches grew from 3 to 10, that employees grew from 40 to 135, and that assets grew from $127 million to $1 billion.

An executive search is underway for O'Brien's replacement.
