Mario Buffoni, 88

LEE, Mass. — Mario Buffoni of Lee, 88, passed away April 28, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Buffoni attended Lee schools and was a mason contractor for over forty years. He served in the Korean War. He received a purple heart, the Good Conduct Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Korean Service Medal with four bronze stars, Combat Infantry badge and The United Nations Service Medal.

He was survived by his wife, Karen Avalle, of Lee; his daughter and son-in-law Diane and Dave Maynes; and granddaughter Rebecca Maynes of Pittsfield. Additionally, he is survived by his three sisters, Lea Zavattoro, Vera Giarolo and Gloria Griffin; sister-in-law Perinna Buffoni; his brother and sister-in-law Lawrence “Babe” and Marie Buffoni; and many nieces and nephews.

He married Karen Avalle and they were together for 32 years, which added to his extended family. Mario leaves behind his step-children: Frank Avalle Jr., Larry Avalle, Lisa Conner, Trisha Garrity and Andrea Wadsworth; nine step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren, all of whom played an important role in his life.

Funeral notice: Funeral services for Mario Buffoni will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening, May 2, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
