John 'Jack' Curtin, 88

ADAMS, Mass. — John I."Jack" Curtin, 88, of Adams, a longtime Northern Berkshire attorney, died Wednesday afternoon, May 17, 2017, at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox.

He was born on December 12, 1928 in Adams, Mass., the son of the late Irving and Mary (Walsh) Curtin. He graduated from Adams High School with the Class of 1947. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1952. He spent 1952-54 serving with the US Army. Following his service in the Army, he was employed with Proctor and Gamble from 1954-57 in Iowa City, Iowa, and Cincinatti, Ohio.

He then attended the University of Iowa Law School, graduating in 1960. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1960 and opened a law office in Adams in 1961. Later that year, he joined the firm of Donovan & O'Connor and soon became a partner in the firm. The firm is now known as Donovan O'Connor & Dodig, LLP.

He was a former member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, and currently a member of St. John Paul II Parish. Mr. Curtin was very active in parish activities, serving as President of the Parish Council, Parish Financial committees, was a lector and a regular communicant. In 1975 Mr. Curtin was presented the "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" medal for distinguished service to the church.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Taconic Golf Club, the Lions Club and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, the former Margaret Tobin, whom he married on February 26, 1977; his brother-in-law, Tom Tobin of Des Plaines, Ill.; his sister-in-law, Rosemarie Curran of Stamford, Vt.; as well as several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews-in-law.

He was predeceased by his sister, Judy Curtin, in 2016.

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 10 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor.

Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Sunday, May 21, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the St. John Paul II Food Pantry, PO Box 231, Adams, MA 01220.
