Douglas S. Howie Jr., 87
LENOX, Mass. — Douglas S. Howie Jr., 87, former GE. Engineer, died at Berkshire Medical Center on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
Born in Lenox, Mass., on July 30, 1929, son of Douglas and Emily Ollien Howie, he was a graduate of The University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi and Tau Beta Pi Honor Societies.
A United States Navy Veteran, he served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Buckley (808) as a first class gun-fire control man. He was employed by General Electric in Pittsfield as a Design Engineer assigned to the submarine missile Fire Control Programs.
He was a communicant of St. Teresa and St. Ann Churches.
Douglas was predeceased by “Dottie,” the former Dorothy Beneat, his loving wife of 60 years. They were married at St Ann’s in January of 1953.
He is survived by son Douglas and his wife Michelle of Bedford; daughter Laura Wyman and her husband Drew of Easthampton; two grandchildren, Douglas of New York and Emily of Nashville; a brother, Allan of Oveida, Fla.; and special family and friends.
Funeral notice: A Mass is planned for later in the summer at St. Ann in Lenox. Burial will be private. Donations can be made in Doug’s memory to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the LPA (Little People of America), both in care of the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
