Max Jongkind, 77

LEE, Mass. — Max Jongkind, 77, formerly of Lansing, Mich., died Wednesday evening, January 24, 2018, at his home, in Lee, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Eindhoven, Netherlands, on January 22, 1941, the son of Jan Cornelis and Katharina Jacoba Jongkind. He graduated from Roseville High School, in Roseville, Mich., in 1959 and attended Wilmington College in Ohio and Michigan State University. Mr. Jongkind served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1964. He worked in the Computer and Electronics Industry and was an Instructor at Lansing Community College. He moved to the Berkshires in 2004 to be closer to his family.

He was active in the Big Brothers Organization for many years. He was an accomplished photographer and his many hobbies and interests include: camping, nature, motorcycling, cross country skiing, cycling, sailing, golfing, family history, cooking, his swimming pool and his wife's garden.

Mr. Jongkind is survived by his former wife and good friend, Patricia Hamilton Jongkind, whom he married on June, 14, 1969; his daughter, Emily Hamilton Mertinooke-Jongkind and her husband, Timothy, of Lee; one brother, Gerrit Louis Jongkind and his wife, Susanne, of Michigan; two sisters, Hilda Jongkind of Lee and Tineke Mertinooke and her husband, Michael, of New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Elijah Max Mertinooke-Jongkind and Zoe Marceline Mertinooke-Jongkind; and with several nieces and nephews.
