Dolores E. Coons, 90

LENOX, Mass. — Dolores E. Coons, 90, died Tuesday morning, February 20, 2018, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pittsfield on December 6, 1927, the daughter of Manuel and Florence Mendonca, she was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.  After graduation, Mrs. Coons married the love of her life and dedicated her time to raising her four children.

She was a communicant of the United Methodist Church of Lenox for much of her life. She enjoyed playing the organ, oil painting, singing with The Sweet Adalines, being a member of The Red Hat Society, performing in the Minstral Show, spending time at the ocean, and most of all being with her family. She had a generous heart and a spunky, fun-loving attitude.  No matter where she went, she was the life of the party.  She danced her whole 90 years and always made the best of every moment.

Her husband, Russell T. Coons, whom she married on August 10, 1946, in Pittsfield, Mass., died in 2005.

Mrs. Coons is survived by four children, Randall Coons and his wife Kathleen of Lee, Wendy Armstrong and her husband Michael of Lee, Beverly Pittman and her former husband Fred of Pittsfield and Shirley Piche and her former husband Michael of Lenox; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Jones (Robert), Kacie Armstrong (Thomas Lampiasi), Jeffrey Coons, Kelly Bianco (James), Jamie Pittman, Fred Pittman Jr., Jennifer Pittman, Ashley Meilunas (Jameson) and Kelly Piche; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Coons was also predeceased by her grandson, Shane R. Kroboth; and her sister Dorothy Williams.

Dolores’ family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center for providing her with such loving care.

Funeral notice: The funeral of Mrs. Dolores E. Coons of Lenox will be Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at Roche Funeral Home. A private burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dolores’ name to the Lenox Fire Department or the United Methodist Church of Lenox in care of the funeral home (120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240).
