Barbara H. Thompson, 84

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Barbara Helen (Chapple) Thompson, 84, of North Adams, Mass., died Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Williamstown Commons.

She was born in West Stewartstown, N.H., on October 12, 1934, daughter of Thomas and Carolyn (Austin) Chapple. She attended schools in New Hampshire and graduated from Stratton High School with the class of 1953. She also completed two years at business school.

Barbara was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served until her marriage in 1956.

She was last employed by North Adams Regional Hospital, where she worked in its business office from 1968 until her retirement in 1998. Barbara enjoyed reading.

Survivors include three sons, Arthur Thompson Jr. of Brookline, Mass., Kevin Albert Thompson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Robert Thomas Thompson of Rome, N.Y.; her longtime friend, Phyllis Goddard; and several nieces and nephews.  

Three brothers are deceased, including John, Gardner and Richard.

Funeral notice: The funeral for Barbara Thompson will be Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, Mass. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.  

A calling hour will be held Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. Donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
