Lena C. Copeland, 84
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Lena Corine Copeland, 84, of 44 George Ave. died Sunday evening, Dec. 31, 2000, at home.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 25, 1916, daughter of Henry and Corine Filiault Champagne, she attended the former Notre Dame School.
Mrs. Copeland was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church and a longtime communicant of the former Our Lady of the Incarnation Church. She was a past president of the Incarnation Church Women's Guild, a member of the Sprague Electric Quarter Century Club and a former member of the Sunday Night Bowling League. She was an active volunteer for the North Adams Council on Aging and a former volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Bank. She enjoyed traveling.
Her husband, James A. Copeland, whom she married May 29, 1937, died Feb. 16, 1978.
She leaves two sons, Robert D. Copeland of Cheshire and Charles J. Copeland of Blackstone; a daughter, Carol J. Brien of North Adams; two brothers, Armand Champagne of Marietta, Ga., and George Champagne of Rowe; six sisters, Theresa Roberts, Eileen Hall and Claire LeSage, all of North Adams, Loretta Smith and Rita Langlois, both of Williamstown, and Cecelia Johnson of North Pownal, Vt.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Copeland will be Thursday at 8:15 from AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Our Lady of Mercy Shrine, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to either Our Lady of Mercy Shrine or the American Heart Association, through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
