Alda A. Wood, 89
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Alda A. Wood, 89, of 85 Eagle St., St. Joseph's Court, and formerly of 48 School St., died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in Bolentina, province of Trentino, Italy, on June 16, 1923, daughter of Antonio and Domenica Maria Albasini Melchiori, she came to the United States at the age of 7 and attended schools in North Adams.
Mrs. Wood was employed at the former Sprague Electric Co. and former Hunter Outdoor Products. She was primarily a homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church. He enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, knitting and crocheting. She especially enjoyed trips to the beach.
Her husband, Lawrence G. Wood, whom she married Jan. 15, 1944, who died Dec. 7, 1991.
She leaves four sons, Lawrence M. Wood and his wife, Stephanie, of Pownal, Vt., Donald G. Wood and his wife, Gail, of West Roxbury and Pownal, Vt., Richard J. Wood and his wife, Debra, of North Adams and Michael J. Wood and his wife, Faye, of Clarksburg; a sister, Norma Williams of North Adams; 10 grandchildren, Bridget Oakes, Christopher Wood, Michael Martocchio, Shelley Potterton, Jennifer Rosier, Kimberly Rougeau, Jason Wood, Zachary Wood, Kate Levesque, and Michael Wood Jr.; 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Michael Melchiori, on Oct. 19, 2010, and her beloved dog, Babe.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Wood will be Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday, Feb. 25, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Foundation in care of the funeral home.
