Ida Rosa Trabold, 98

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ida Rosa Trabold, 98, of 212 Franklin St. died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Williamstown Commons. Mrs. Trabold was a longtime teacher in the North Adams Public Schools and had been the oldest graduate of North Adams State Teachers College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Born in Williamstown on Oct. 11, 1914, daughter of Mario and Alice Canepele Maino, she grew up in Williamstown and was a member of the Williamstown Girls' Club and sang in the St. Patrick's Church Choir. She graduated from the former Williamstown High School with the class of 1932 and from MCLA in 1936. She later took graduate courses at the college and at Boston and Syracuse (N.Y.) universities. She was active in the Glee Club in college and was the soloist at college events. Mrs. Trabold taught at Freeman and Sullivan schools until her retirement in 1979. In her early years, she worked at the Williams College Library, then as a substitute teacher for 10 years in North Adams. After her marriage, she was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a member of its Choir and Rosary Society. She was a former lector, Eucharistic minister and also taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. She was the president of the North Adams State College Alumni Association in 1950-51 and had been the class agent for the Class of 1936 since 1996. She received an honorary degree in pedagogy from MCLA in 1998. She sang with the Peter D'Amico Orchestra for about six years in her younger years. She was a charter member of the Heptones, Chapter of Harmony Inc., an international barbershop singing organization, and was the director of its local chapter for many years. After retiring, Mrs. Trabold was a volunteer at the Red Cross Bloodmobile, American Cancer Society, Northern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce Tourist Booth, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams Historical Society and at the election polls. She was a member of the Rhythm Belles, a group of line dancers who performed at area nursing homes and other locations. She also enjoyed spending time at her condo in Florida. Her husband, P. Randolph Trabold, longtime and well-known North Adams Transcript photographer, whom she married on July 5, 1941, died on Feb. 18, 1980. She leaves her daughter, Barbara Trabold Cirone of Williamstown; her son, Peter Trabold Jr. of North Adams; a brother, Arthur Maino of Williamstown; four grandchildren, John Cirone of Seattle, Matthew Cirone of Cincinnati, David Cirone of South Hadley and Matthew Trabold of North Adams; six great-grandchildren, Mia Brannon-Cirone, Ella Brannon-Cirone, Kaia Cirone, Tyler Cirone, Nicholas Cirone and Nathan Cirone, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, Gelsomina DeMayo, Frederica Judge, Sylvia Phillips, Norman Maino and Richard Maino. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Trabold will be celebrated Saturday, June 1, at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, May 31, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Conference or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.

Ida born into one of the finest families in Williamstown and married into one of the finest North Adams families and I feel she transpired both families in her long life. May she rest in peace. My prayers go out to her and her family.

I remember her from St. Francis Church and she was a wonderful woman. Will keep her in our prayers. I send out my condolences too her whole family.
