Bertha Dame Young, 92
HANCOCK, Mass. — Bertha Isabelle Dame Young, 92, of Hancock Road died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at her home.
Born in North Adams on March 9, 1921, daughter of William H. and Harriet Gardner Northup, she attended schools in Williamstown.
Mrs. Young was last employed at M. Lurie & Sons Clothing Store. Earlier, she had worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams and the former Williams Newsroom and G.R. Clarks.
She enjoyed sewing, crafting and was an expert doll-maker. She operated the Maple Grove Gift Shop and she also exhibited and sold her work at craft shows throughout New York and New England for 30 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Williamstown.
Her first husband, Robert Dame, died in 1944.
She leaves her husband, Richard N. Young, whom she married on Dec. 10, 1966; a daughter, Sandra Gale and her husband, Russell, of Sheffield; two grandchildren, Russell Gale Jr. of Stephentown, N.Y., and Matthew Gale of Holland; two great-granddaughters, Sonja Gale and Samantha Gale; two great-great-grandsons, Christopher and Avery, and nieces and nephews.
Two brothers and two sisters predeceased her: Grace Norman, Ruth Lancto, Horace Northup and William Northup.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Young will be Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams.
A calling hour will be held Saturday morning from 10 to 11 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested for the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
