Verna M. Forand, 90
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Verna Mabel Forand, 90, of 196 Eagle St. died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at North Adams Commons, where she known by the loving and devoted staff as Gram.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 8, 1923, a daughter of Joseph and Dora Dupuis Guertin, she attended schools in North Adams including Drury High School.
Mrs. Forand was employed first at the former Clark Biscuit Co. and was lastly at Cascade Paper Co. for 22 years, retiring in 1989.
She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church and the former St. Francis' Church. She enjoyed collecting thimbles, sewing and baking. She was known by her family and friend for her famous banana bread and fudge.
Her husband, Harold Forand, whom she married Aug. 8, 1941, died in 1969.
She leaves her daughter, Sandra Jean Girard and her husband, Glenn, of Clarksburg; three grandchildren, Kimberly Hogue of Adams and Paul Girard and Michael Girard, both of Clarksburg, and four great-grandchildren, Justin, Allison, Brandon and Anastasia.
She was predeceased by her brother, Norman Guertin, and her sisters Mildred LaDue and Grace Guertin.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Forand will take place Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 7 at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
