Adrienne Apkin, 89
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Adrienne Apkin, 89, of Acton,and formerly of 19 East Quincy St., died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at her home in Acton.
Born in Waterville, Maine, on Sept. 6, 1924, daughter of Herman and Dora Rabinowitz Goffin, she attended schools in Portland, Maine, and graduated from the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn (N.Y.) School of Nursing.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Apkin was an employed as an operating room nurse at North Adams Regional Hospital and later for the Berkshire County Cooperative Extension Service. She was first employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., and lastly by the federal Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.
She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel and its Sisterhood, and also a member of Hadassah. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid walker.
Her husband, Judge Benjamin Apkin, whom she married on March 17, 1946, died on March 20, 2012.
She leaves four daughters, Rochel Sourkes of Brooklyn, N.Y., Phyllis Nichols of Medford, N.J., Joan Apkin of West Newbury and Deborah Wineberg of Adams; a sister, Shirley Ladd of Cranston, R.I.; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Her siblings Hoover Goffin and Arlene Eisen are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE - The services for Mrs. Apkin were held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Congregation Beth Israel and burial was in Beth Israel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Israel or the charity of the donor's choice in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams.
