Atwell and his wife, Deanna, of North Adams; a sister, Patricia Courtemanche of North Adams; a brother, Michael DeGrenier of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Kelsie Cote, David Atwell, Hadleigh Atwell and Payton Atwell; his former wife, Susan Lazarczyk of Adams, and nieces and nephews.

His brother Roger Atwell is deceased.
