Bernard W. Lord, 88
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Bernard William Lord, 88, of Harding Avenue died on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, lovingly surrounded by his family.
Born in North Adams on June 26, 1926, son of William and Albina Brosseau Lord, he attended schools in North Adams, including the former Notre Dame Grammar School, and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1944 and later from the General Electric Apprentice Program.
He served with Company K of the Massachusetts National Guard.
Mr. Lord was employed with GE in Pittsfield as a designer and draftsman in a managerial position. He retired in 1986 after 41 years of service. He had first worked at the former Gale Shoe Co.
He was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church, serving actively as an acolyte, a minister of the word and Eucharistic minister, and of its successor, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He enjoyed woodworking, playing golf and bridge, and was a member the Retired Men's Bowling League. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
His wife, the former Elizabeth Ann Ryan, whom he married in the former St. Francis' Church on Sept. 13, 1952, died March 29, 2004.
He leaves two daughters, Patricia Kasuba and her husband, Christopher, of North Greenbush, N.Y., and Mary Young and her husband, Robert, of South Glastonbury, Conn.; three sons; Michael Lord and his wife, Shirley, of Annapolis, Md., Richard Lord of Peabody and William Lord and his wife, Jill, of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Robert Lord of Glastonbury, Conn.; two sisters, Gloria Lord and Madeleine Lord, both of North Adams; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and his companion, Margaret Daniels of North Adams.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Mr. Lord will take place on Friday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday evening, Nov. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth's Church in care of the funeral home.
