Walter S. Davis, 78
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Longtime North Adams Police Officer Walter Stewart Davis, 78, of 44 Veazie St. died Saturday, Nov 29, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Montpelier, Vt., on Oct. 22, 1936, a son of Kenneth and Ruth Stewart Davis, he graduated from Drury High School.
A Marine Corps veteran, he served with the military police as a private.
Mr. Davis was an officer and detective for many years with the Police Department, retiring in 2001.
He had been a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of the North Adams Elks.
He and his wife, the former Phyllis J. Guyette, were married Nov. 9, 1957, in St. Francis' Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Kathleen Montgomery and her husband, James, Debra Sprowson and her husband, Robert, and Jane Davis, all of North Adams; a brother, Kenneth Davis Jr. and his wife, Linda, of North Adams; a sister, Alice Kolodziej and her husband, Ron, of Adams; six grandchildren, Kevin Davis and his wife, Alicia, Katelyn Boesse, Jennifer Loynes and her husband, Kenneth, Kelsey Sprowson, Jamie Czarnecki and her husband, Brandon, and Jonathan Sprowson; nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Lauren, Lainey, Hailey, Lucas, Hunter, Jayden, Braylee and Skylar, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Clarence Davis and sister Amber Ritcher.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Davis will take place Friday, Dec. 5, at 9 a.m. from St. Elizabeth's Church in North Adams. Burial with full military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for Berkshire VNA & Hospice or the Pediatric Oncology Unit at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center through the funeral home.
