Thelma E. LaPier, 81
HANCOCK, Mass. — Thelma E. LaPier, 81, of Hancock Road died on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown.
Born in Stephentown, N.Y., on April 29, 1933, a daughter of Roy Moon and Dorothy Hoffman Moon-Miner, she attended schools in Stephentown and Garfield, N.Y. She also attended the one-room schoolhouse in Hancock, where she became fast friends with her classmates.
Primarily a homemaker and devoted mother, Mrs. LaPier was employed for many years as a cleaning woman for many families in the area.
She enjoyed flowers, especially pansies, and watching the birds at the feeders in her yard.
Her husband, Harvey LaPier, died in 1977.
She leaves three daughters, Eunice LaPier and Charmaine LaPier, with both whom she made her home, and Agnes Hoffman and her husband, James, of Stephentown; a brother, Carl Moon Sr. of Readsboro, Vt.; three sisters, Gloria Sprague of North Adams, Kathleen Langnickel of Pittsfield and Constance McKenzie of Dalton.
Her son, Leroy, and daughter Debbie both died in infancy. She was also predeceased by her sisters Joyce Morin and Patricia Moon.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. LaPier will be held Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in the Hancock Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, April 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.
