Daniel P. Phelps, 28
NEW ASHFORD, Mass. - Daniel Patrick Phelps, 28, of New Ashford died on Saturday May 23, 2015.
Born on Dec. 5, 1986, the son of Harley "Hap" Phelps III and Bette Bassette Phelps of New Ashford, he graduated from Mount Greylock Regional High School with the class of 2005. He was a dominant runner and pole-vaulter on the school's teams. He attended Colorado Mountain College, where he made major contributions to rail jam snowboarding contests.
Mr. Phelps took his knowledge and passion of designing snowparks to Okemo Mountain Resort. He was employed at Williams College in the campus life department at the time of his death.
He loved snowboarding and designing snowboarding parks. His appreciation for snowboarding started young and carried through teen years, during which he instructed others at the former Brodie Mountain Ski Resort. He also loved skateboarding, photography, art, creating music and playing the guitar. He was known for always having a smile and a never-quit attitude.
His family and friends know he will be shredding with the angels.
Besides his parents, he leaves his sister, Jenna Phelps of New Ashford; his brother, Colton Phelps of New Ashford; his paternal grandfather, Harley Phelps Jr. of New Ashford; uncles and aunts Mark and Susan Supranowicz, Jeff and Sharon Trerise, Paul and Diane Phelps, David and Joan Bassette, Barbara and Joseph Oleskiewicz, and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Phelps, his aunt Jo-Ann Phelps, and uncles Paul Bassette and Bill Bassette.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Phelps will take place Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the Daniel Patrick Phelps Snowboarding Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
