John H. Burdick, 88
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — John Hamilton Burdick, 88, of 100 Cliff St. died Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in North Adams on Nov. 14, 1926, a son of Harold and Thelma Grant Burdick, he graduated from Drury High School.
A Coast Guard veteran of World War II, he served aboard a Patrol Torpedo boat.
Mr. Burdick was employed by the North Adams School Department as a custodian at Sullivan School until his retirement. He first worked in the shipping department at the former Sprague Electric for 20 years, then several years at the the former General Electric Co. in Pittsfield.
He was a quiet, easy going and simple man who was liked very much by everyone who knew him; no one could ask for a better man than John. He had been in failing health for some time. The world would be a better place if more people were like him. He was completely devoted to his son and grandson.
His beloved wife, the former Bertha Salavantis Vaughan, died in 2006.
He leaves his son, Richard "Rick" Vaughan and his companion, Denise Kennedy, of North Adams; a grandson, Loren Rosenburg of North Adams, and a niece, Janice Chenail.
His siblings Monroe Burdick and Dorothy Carlisle predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Burdick will take place Saturday morning, June 27, at 9 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
