Betty R. Scrivens, 90
ROWE, Mass. — Betty R. Scrivens, 90, of Rowe died on Monday, July 27, 2015, at Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield.
Born in Rowe on Dec. 2, 1924, a daughter of Edwin and Katie Reed Brown, she was born and raised in Rowe and attended schools there. She graduated from the Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls. She had moved to North Adams after her marriage and returned to Rowe in 1948 to raise her family.
Mrs. Scriverns worked as head waitress at the former Rainbow Hill Inn. Duriing World War II, she had worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams.
She was a member of the Rowe Community church where she was an active member of its Ladies' Guild. She loved taking cruises and vacationing in Maine.
Her husband, Frederick C. Scrivens, whom she married on Nov. 10, 1942, died in April 1992.
She leaves two sons, William Scrivens and his wife, Linda, of North Adams and David Scrivens of Rowe; a brother, Stanley Brown of Arizona; four grandchildren, Theresa, Billy, Elizabeth and Michael, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Faith, at birth; a grandson, Robert; brothers, Everett, Robert, Deane, and Roger Brown, and a sister, Christine Gorczakoski.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Per Mrs. Scrivens' request there will be no services or calling hours. A private burial, at the convenience of the family, will be held in the West Rowe Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Dakin Humane Society, 163 Montague Road, Leverett, MA 01054.
