Norman P. Barber, 90

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Norman Perley Barber, 90, of 1181 North Hoosac Road, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Williamstown Commons, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pownal, Vt., on March 24, 1925, son of Lee H. And Katherine May Smith Barber, he was raised and educated in Pownal. He moved to Williamstown after the war. An Army veteran of World War II, he traveled throughout Europe during the war. Mr. Barber was employed for 33 years at the former R.J. Widen Tannery in Blackinton, North Adams, as a leather tanner. When the tannery closed, he started his second career in his 50s at Steinerfilm as an evening supervisor, a job he loved so much that he didn't retire until the age of 80. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where he held various positions including being a longtime head usher. He was also a 50-year member of the Free Masons. His other love of his life was his family. He leaves his wife of 68 years, the former Eva King; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Thomas Beaudreau of Williamstown; two granddaughters, Brooke Huszcza and her husband, Michael, of Scotch Plains, N.J., and Aimee Rogers and her husband, Kevin, of Winter Haven, Fla.; five great-grandsons, Brendan Huszcza, Brian Huszcza, Patrick Huszcza, Kyle Rogers and Nate Rogers; several nieces and nephews, including Nancy Copeland and his sister-in-law, Alice Barber, both of the state of Florida. He was predeceased by two brothers, Morgan Barber and Ross Barber. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Barber will be Monday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. from First Baptist Church, Main Street, Williamstown. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, Aug. 2, from 2 to 4 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mr. Barber's memory be made to First Baptist Church of Williamstown.
