Ernest R. Taft, 96
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Ernest Robert Taft, 96, of Southernview Drive, died on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 at Williamstown Commons.
Born in Uxbridge on July 14, 1919, a son to Robert and Silda Cnossen Taft, he attended schools in Uxbridge and graduated from Bentley College.
An Army Air Corps vetern of World War II, he served as a sergeant with the 585th Bombardment Squadron.
Mr. Taft was last employed as an accountant for the former Sprague Electric Co. for many years until his retirement.
He was an active member of the Williamstown Community Bible Church, where he served as a former treasurer and board member of the building committee. He also had been a volunteer with the former North Adams Regional Hospital for more than 12 years, logging in more than 6,000 hours. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening, walking and, most of all, spending time with his family.
His wife, the former Anne Stienstra, whom he married Oct. 18, 1947,died March 19, 1995.
He leaves his four daughters, Dorothy Taft of Adams, Jean Senecal of Whitingham, Vt., Ruth Witham of New Ipswich, N.H., and Cynthia Fiore of South Attleboro; two brothers, William Taft of Maine and Kenneth Taft of Rhode Island; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter Nancy Taft and a sister, Patricia Hauge.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A funeral service for Mr. Taft will be held at the Williamstown Community Bible Church on Tuesday morning, Nov. 3, at 10. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday, Nov. 2, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Home, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations can be made to the Williamstown Community Bible Church.
