Edward M. Shartrand Jr., 94

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Edward M. Shartrand Jr., 94, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of North Adams, died on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, in Florida.

Born in North Adams on Aug. 12, 1921, a son of Edward M. and Ida Lescarbeau Shartrand, he attended local schools in North Adams.

A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he received two bronze stars and a Purple Heart.

Mr. Shartrand was a self-employed carpenter for many years and was last employed as a carpenter at the former North Adams State College.  
 
He was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church and of St. Ambrose Church in Deerfield Beach, Fla. He enjoyed spending time with his son, Paul, and family.

His wife, the former Frances R. Cerminara, died on March 1, 1997.

Besides his son, Paul Shartrand and his wife, Sandy, of Deerfield Beach, he leaves a sister, Antoinette Whitmore; five grandchildren, Angela, Erika, Hannah, Joey and Bryan; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Naomi, and two daughters-in-law, Christine Shartrand and Nancy Shartrand.

He was predeceased by three sons, Edward M. Shartrand III, John Shartrand and Joseph Shartrand, and four siblings, Henry Shartrand, Wilfred Shartrand, George Shartrand and Rita Czubryt.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Shartrand will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial with full military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
