Robert J. Saulnier, 78
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Robert John Saulnier, 78, of North Adams died Monday, May 16, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center in North Adams.
He was born in North Adams on April 30, 1938, son of Wilfred F. and Mary Rose (LeCuyer) Saulnier. He graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1956 and also graduated from Paul Smith's College in Malone, N.Y., in 1958. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard in 1962.
Bob worked as registered land surveyor beginning with Petricca Construction and also with Robert Deloye Surveying. He served as the Assistant County Surveyor (Berkshire) in 1968 and retired in 1993 as the Berkshire County Surveyor. In 1985, he opened his own business as a registered land surveyor and at the time of his passing was still engaged in the business on a part-time basis.
He was a communicant of Sts. Patrick and Raphael Church. Bob was a member of the Taconic Golf Club since 1991 and enjoyed playing with the Saturday morning "Ham and Eggers" golf group. He was also a member of the Berkshire County Seniors Golf Association.
Bob enjoyed playing cribbage, golf and yard work, including mowing his neighbor's lawns. He was fond of his time spending winters in Port St. Lucie, Fla., including a regular three-week visit to Cocoa Beach. Bob became a New York Mets fan several years ago, born of a friendship with Manager Terry Collins, who was also one of his favorite cribbage opponents.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine M. (Scialabba) Saulnier, whom he married on April 22, 1978; one daughter, Michelle Fournier and her husband Thomas of Drumheller of Alberta, Canada; one son, R. Christopher Saulnier of Kihei, Maui; three grandchildren, Cameron, Rachael and Chase Kostelecky; two brothers-in-law, Richard Scialabba and his wife Laurel of Hinsdale and James Scialabba of Adams; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one sister and one brother, including Wilfred "Bud" Saulnier and Irene Dubreuil Clark.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Bob Saulnier will be celebrated Friday, May 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Patrick and Raphael Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours are Thursday, May 19, from 4-7 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals West Chapels, 521 West Main St. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association; Paul Smith's College Alumni Fund or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
