Edward L. Farinon, 77

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Edward L. "Fiock" Farinon, 77, of 32 Pebble St. died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center, where he was admitted July 2. Born in North Adams on March 14, 1925, son of Louis S. and Julia Ercoliani Farinon, he was a 1943 graduate of Drury High School. A veteran of World War II, he entered the Army in 1943 and served as a sergeant with Company M, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was involved in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, Belgium, St. Lo and Central Europe, and was awarded the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster and several campaign medals. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Mr. Farinon worked in construction with a number of local firms until his retirement. He was first employed by the former Pedercini Coal Co. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. He was a member of Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 487, and was a former member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. An avid sportsman, he was a sports talent scout in his younger years. He was a member of the former St. Anthony Crusaders football and basketball teams. He also played with numerous local softball and baseball teams. He and his wife, the former Mary Peat, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary June 6. They were married in St. Francis' Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Deborah "Peat" Isbell of Acushnet; a son, Edward Farinon of Acushnet; two sisters, Rita Girardi and Mary "Mamie" Lewis, both of North Adams; four brothers, Orlando Farinon of Orlando, Fla., Rinaldo Farinon of Stamford, Vt., Ernest Farinon of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Raymond J. Farinon of North Adams, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lindbergh and Francis Farinon. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral will be Tuesday, July 16, at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish Center by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, July 15, from 4 to 8.
