Robert E. Rohane, 84
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Robert E. Rohane, 84, of Gibsonton, Fla., formerly of North Adams, died Saturday, July 27, 2002. He was a member of the North Adams City Council during the 1940s.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 17, 1917, son of Jeremiah and Grace Duxbury Rohane, he attended the former Houghton School and was a 1937 graduate of Drury High School. He also graduated from the former Bliss Business College.
Mr. Rohane formerly owned Rohane Oil Co. He retired as a sales representative for Mullen Moving and Storage.
He was the first nominated and elected Catholic president of the Young Men's Christian Association and past president of the Lions Club and Community Concerts.
He enjoyed playing golf and had participated in many tournaments at the North Adams Country Club in Clarksburg.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, the former Gladys McGinnis; a daughter, Patricia Richards of Dover, N.H.; three sons, John Rohane of Las Casses, Tenn., and Michael Rohane and Robert Rohane, both of Gibsonton; a sister, Maisie Pierce of Williamstown; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
