Alma A. Kent

Alma Antoinette Kent, 87, of 37 Lois St. died yesterday at Sweet Brook Health Care Center in Williamstown. Born in Arco, province of Trento, Austria, on April 23, 1913, daughter of Pietro Bertoldi and Maria Vivori Bertoldi Benedetti, she attended school in Austria before emigrating to the United States in 1922. She then attended schools in North Adams. Mrs. Kent was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for 48 years, retiring in 1979. Before that, she worked at GE in Pittsfield for a short time. She was a former communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a former member of its Rosary Society. In her later years, she was a communicant of Our Lady of the Incarnation Church, now Our Lady of Mercy Shrine. She was a member of the Sprague Electric Quarter Century Club and an active volunteer for the North Adams Salvation Army, where she was a member of the Booth Club. Mrs. Kent was a longtime summer resident of Kampersville on Lake Dunmore in East Middlebury, Vt. She enjoyed camping and learned to swim at the age of 70. She and her husband, Leslie Kent, would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary July 31. They were married in St. Anthony's Church. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Jean Swift of North Adams; a brother, Henry Bartholdi of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; four stepsisters, Erminia Zocchi, Mary Caffrey, Dosolina Law and Alma Benedetti, all of North Adams; two stepbrothers, Henry Benedetti of North Adams and Rudolph Benedetti of Ormond Beach, Fla., and four grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:45 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the Church Outreach to Youth "COTY" Center in North Adams through the funeral home. She leaves four grandchildren, John Maynard Swift Jr. and his wife, Kimberly Marie Swift, of Charlestown; Lt. Gov. Jane Marie Swift of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and her husband, Chuck Hunt, of Williamstown; Johanna Martha Swift Hart and her husband, Kyle Hart, of San Francisco, Calif., and Robert Ashley Swift and his wife, Katja Swift, of East Randolph, Vt.; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ruth Hunt, Seneca Jane Hart and Samuel Bryant Swift. She was predeceased by a sister and a brother, Jane Emily Talarico and Vincent Bertoldi, and by a stepbrother and a stepsister, William Benedetti and Livia Plummer.
