Biagio Albertazzi, 88

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Biagio Albertazzi, 88, formerly of 600 Cheshire Road, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, where he had resided since Dec. 5, 2000. Born in the Farnams section of Cheshire on Dec. 30, 1914, son of Domenico and Anunziata Bianchi Albertazzi, he attended schools in Cheshire. Mr. Albertazzi was employed as the custodian at Lanesborough Elementary School for 20 years, retiring in 1977. Before that, he was employed as a construction worker for various companies in Berkshire County. He also drove a school bus for the Lanesborough school system. He was a communicant of North American Martyrs Church in Lanesborough and attended St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire. He was an enthusiastic sports fan who attended all sports events at Mount Greylock Regional High School. When he was a young man, he raced cars for six years at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y. He was a Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He was a beloved father and cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. His wife, the former Mary A. Saldo, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1940, in St. Mary's Church, died on Dec. 1, 2002. He leaves a son, Reno D. Albertazzi and his wife, Susan, of Pittsfield; five sisters, Chesela Magi of Naperville, Ill., Elizabeth Bongini of Pittsfield, Nellie Charron, Gena Simpson and Alda Roy, all of North Adams; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey and Mark Novo, Regina, Rena, Reno and Roman Albertazzi and Rhea Carnevale, and three great-grandchildren, Michael, Kirstie and Justin Carnevale. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jean E. Novo on Nov. 6, 1989, and a brother, Reno Albertazzi, in 1942 during World War II. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Mr. Albertazzi on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 11 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at Cheshire Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.
