Anne J. McGrail, 88

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Anne J. McGrail, 88, of 80 Gale Road and Naples, Fla., died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Williamstown on Jan. 26, 1916, daughter of Michael and Anna Walsh Callahan, she graduated from the former Williamstown High School. Mrs. McGrail attended Mayfair Academy of Fashion and Modeling in New York City and worked in Manhattan and Boston. She was a past member of St. Cecilia's Women's Club, the Florence Crittenden League of Brookline, Taconic Golf Club and the Glades Country Club of Naples, where she had two holes in one. She was a communicant of the Parish of Sts. Patrick and Raphael and a volunteer for the Clark Art Institute and the American Cancer Society. She and her late husband, Joseph F. McGrail, former owner of Linwood Grille in Boston, were married Nov. 30, 1946. They were longtime volunteers for the Jimmy Fund with close friend Ted Williams. She was a Red Sox fan. Her companion of 23 years, Alton L. Perry, died Feb. 4, 2003. She leaves a son, Sean McGrail of Hudson, N.H.; a brother, Michael "Tim" Callahan and his wife, Ruth, of North Adams; four grandchildren, and her niece and caretaker, Debbie Collins of North Adams; Mr. Perry's sons Tony Perry and John B. Perry and his wife, Debbie, of Ojai, Calif., along with their children, her godchild Maria of Ojai and Matthew Perry of Beverly Hills, Calif.; her sister-in-law Fran Callahan of Bloomfield, Conn.; longtime friend Marian Bradley of Williamstown, and nieces, nephews and godchildren. She also was predeceased by a daughter, Joeanne D. McGrail, and her siblings Mary Wyman and Richard, Thomas, William and John Callahan. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. McGrail will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 20, at 10 at St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown, by the Rev. Mark Burke, SJ, pastor of St. Patrick's and St. Raphael's Parish. Burial will be at a later date in the family plot in Westlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. McGrail had asked that donations be made to the St. Patrick's and St. Raphael's Food Pantry in Williamstown, to the American Lung Association or to the Jimmy Fund of Boston through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams.
