John R. Budz, 93

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — John R. "Jack" Budz, 93, of 60 Saulnier Drive died Tuesday morning, March 8, 2003, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. Born in Housatonic on Feb. 26, 1912, son of Andrew and Mary Korkos Budz, he graduated from the former Searles High School and, in 1935, from Rensselaer (N.Y.) Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering. He also completed the Dale Carnegie Public Speaking and Human Relations Course. A decorated Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater as a lieutenant. Mr. Budz was employed for 35 years by the former James Hunter Machine Co., now Berkshire Morrison, in North Adams as a sales engineer. He also had worked in mechanical design and general plant engineering at Armstrong Cork Co. in Lancaster, Pa., Manhattan Rubber Co. in Passaic, N.J., and Clover Manufacturing Co. in Norwalk, Conn. He then was as a sales engineer for Cambridge Co. in Lowell, a division of Carrier Corp., for several years. He was a longtime communicant of Sts. Patrick and Raphael's Parish. He was a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion in North Adams and a former member of the Williamstown Lions Club. He was a member of the Williams College Quarterback and Faculty clubs and Panther coffee group. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Taconic Golf Club. He and his wife, the former Lillian Rose Gaenzle of Lancaster, were married Sept. 11, 1943, in Amarillo, Texas. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Carol Ann Blanchard of Austin, Texas, and Diane Louise "Dede" Budz of Williamstown; nieces and nephews, Dr. Andrew Budz, Edward Budz and Deborah Ann Budz-O'Neil, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Dr. Chester Budz in 1998, retired Army Col. Andrew Budz in 1992 and Edward Budz in the South Pacific in World War II, and two sisters, Louise Mulhall in 1992 and Anna Martin in 1991. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Budz will be celebrated Saturday at 10 at St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the St. Patrick's Church Food Pantry through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams. The family of John R. Budz acknowledges with grateful appreciation the staff at the Vermont Veterans Home for their loving care and support during Mr. Budz's stay.
