Ida B. Barber, 84
ADAMS, Mass. - Ida Barbara Barber, 84, of 51 North Summer St. died Monday, June 27, 2005, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted Sunday.
Born in North Adams on June 2, 1921, daughter of Ignazio and Viola Crosina Prenguber, she was a 1939 graduate of Drury High School. She also graduated from the former Bliss Business School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Barber was first employed by the former Gale Shoe Co. and worked briefly at the former Hunter Machine and Sprague Electric companies, all in North Adams.
She was a communicant of the former Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas in Adams and a member of the Italian Girls Club, the Daughters of Italy, the Clarksburg Senior Center and the Ladies' Auxiliary of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She and her husband, Willard W. Barber, were married May 3, 1947, at St. Francis' Church in North Adams.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Diane Dowgiewicz of Bennington, Vt.; a sister, Barbara Keating of Zephyrhills, Fla.; two grandchildren, Matthew Dowgiewicz of Latham, N.Y., and Maria Dowgiewicz of Northampton, and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, John C. Prenguber, and by two sisters, Catherine Prenguber and a sister in infancy.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Services for Mrs. Barber will be conducted Thursday, June 30, 2005, at 9 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Adams celebrated by the Rev. David Darcy, pastor of St. Mary's Church in Ludlow. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m.
