Mary G. Scrivens, 74

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Mary Grace Scrivens, 74, of 1027 Massachusetts Ave. died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, where she had resided since August. Born in North Adams on Jan. 17, 1931, daughter of Clarence W. and Evelyn Bedard Scrivens, she was educated in the former St. Joseph's Elementary and High schools. Miss Scrivens was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary by Ashley Swift & Sons Plumbing and Heating Co. for more than 30 years. Following her retirement in 1994, she was a caretaker for elderly residents until three years ago. She also worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. She was a former communicant of St. Francis' Church and enjoyed reading, music, old movies and baseball. She was a beloved aunt for her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and devoted to her family as a baby-sitter and caretaker for them for many years. She leaves five sisters, Lillian DeSanty,Vivian Swift, Margaret Perreault and Florence Haskins, all of North Adams, and Alice Haworth of Columbia, S.C., and two brothers, William L. Scrivens of North Adams and Henry Scrivens of Jacksonville, Fla.; her nieces and caregivers, Mary Jo Belanger of Stamford, Vt., Ann Benedetti of Natick and Patricia Vareschi of North Adams; a brother-in-law, Robert Haskins, and sisters-in-law, Doris Scrivens and Lillian Scrivens. She was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence "Jack" Scrivens and Fred Scrivens. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Services for Miss Scrivens will be Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at 9:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 64 Marshall St. celebrated by the Rev. William Cyr, pastor. Burial will take place later. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
