Mario J. Trenti, 88
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mario J. "Mac" Trenti, 88, a retired North Adams police officer, of 52 Perkins St., Gloucester, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at home.
Born in Adams on April 23, 1918, son of Roberto and Adamina Martino Trenti, he attended schools in North Adams. He was a longtime resident of 328 State St. He moved to Gloucester in 2005.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on the USS Flicker, the USS Tuscaloosa and the USS Patoka.
Mr. Trenti was a city patrolman for 35 years. Before that, he was employed by the former Gale Shoe Shop for a short time.
He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the North Adams Elks Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf and swimming. He was a sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox, and in his younger years, enjoyed running and tennis.
He and his wife, the former May Iris "Didi" Dowling, were married June 19, 1943, in St. Francis' Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Candace A. Trenti of Gloucester; two sons, Robert E. Trenti and his wife, Barbara, of Gloucester and Scott M. Trenti and his wife, Robin, of Rockport; two sisters, Rena Koszelnik of Adams and Gina Cirullo of North Adams; seven grandchildren, Derek Pregent and his wife, Marcey, and Joshua and Travis Pregent, Sarah Trenti, Adam Elliott, and Kelsey and Christopher Trenti; two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Lily Pregent, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Tullia Daughton and Olga Godfrey.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Trenti will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with a funeral Mass at 9 at St. Francis' Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Flowers may be sent.
