Gary A. Smith, 50
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Gary Alvin Smith, 50, of 150 Ashland St. died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 11, 1956, son of Alvin C. Smith and Mary Rahilly Smith Miller, he graduated from Pittsfield High School and from Berkshire Community College.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Smith had been employed by Berkshire Community College for seven years. Before that, he worked for General Electric Co. for 10 years.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 487 and George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was a past post commander. He was a fan of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. He was an active civic member of North Adams and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He leaves two daughters, Melissa Sue Peto and her husband, Seth, of Pittsfield and Jennifer Ann Hutchinson and her husband, Brett, of Coralville, Iowa; a brother, Donald Henneberger and his spouse, Arthur Henneberger, of Springfield; two sisters, Cheryl Pero and her husband, Daniel, of North Adams and June Cwirka and her husband, Edward, of Shokan, N.Y.; and a grandson, Jack Robert Hutchinson.
He was predeceased by his sisters Diane Rose in 1996 and Linda E. Smith in 1998.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Smith will take place with military honors Wednesday at 5 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. Donations are suggested in his memory.
