David F. Murphy, 51

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — David Francis Murphy, 51, of 59 Birchwood Terrace died at home on Saturday, June 17, 2007, of cancer. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 30, 1955, son of Eleanor Spring Murphy and the late Raymond A. Murphy Sr., he attended Taconic High School. An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, he served as a military policeman. Mr. Murphy was employed by Williams College as department supervisor of campus safety and security, retiring in 2005 after becoming disabled. He had worked at the college since 1984. Following his military service, he worked as a military police officer at the Groton (Conn.) Naval Base for a short time. He was also a Cheshire police officer for several years. He attended St. Francis' Church and was an associate member of the International Association of College Law Enforcement Administrators and the New England College and University Security Association. He collected baseball cards, stamps and coins, was a history expert and enjoyed attending concerts. He and his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Koscielniak, were married June 26, 1993, in Williamstown. Besides his wife and mother, of Pittsfield, he leaves a brother, Raymond A. Murphy Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Shutesbury; and two sisters, Cheryl P. Hover and her husband, Chester, and Ellen J. Wood and her husband, Michael, all of Pittsfield; his father- and mother-in-law, Martin and Hilda Koscielniak; his brother-in-law, Eric Koscielniak; a niece, five nephews, five great-nieces and a great-nephew. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Murphy will be conducted Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 at St. Francis' Church celebrated by the Rev. William Cyr, pastor. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire or to the Jimmy Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
