Michael F. Cirullo, 88

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Michael F. Cirullo, 88, of 78 Lincoln St. died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he had been admitted Sunday. Born in North Adams on Feb. 12, 1913, son of Francesco and Elisabetta Lombardo Cirullo, he attended North Adams schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a technical sergeant in the 117th Infantry, 30th Division. After landing in Normandy in mid-June 1944, he participated in the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Serving in a heavy weapons company, he participated in the battles of Mortain in France, Stavelot in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, and the breaching of the Siegfried Line in Germany. He received the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Belgian Fourragere. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to North Adams. Mr. Cirullo was then employed by Gordon & Sutton Construction for 22 years, retiring in 1978. He was first worked at the former Hoosac Cotton Mill on Union Street and the former Arnold Print Works on Marshall Street. He later was employed by the Sprague Electric Co. until the outbreak of World War II. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church and a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. He also was a member of Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the North Adams Sons of Italy Lodge 704 and the Laborers International Union of North Adams. He leaves his wife, the former Gina Trenti, whom he married April 7, 1951, in St. Anthony of Padua Church, and five sisters, Mary Bellows of Southport, N.C., Virginia Strange of Pittsfield, Angela "Tillie" Abuisi of Williamstown, and Rose LeBeau and Frances Rondeau, both of North Adams. He was predeceased by a sister and a brother, Theresa Gonyea and James Cirullo. FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Cirullo will take place Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams, with the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor, as the celebrant. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
